We deeply believe that the Mission of God through the Church should include Local and Global engagement. With this at our core we try to offer opportunities each year to participate in the work of God in the world.
Purpose
Piney Grove seeks to live out a call to serve our neighbor, whether they are next door or around the world. We believe that the mission of God is best done together and not left up to one group or generation in the church. We provide financial and volunteer support to many agencies throughout Mount Airy, Surry County, and around the world. Our missional efforts are divided into 4 categories. We believe these areas address the greatest needs of our community and highlight our congregations’ skills and passions. They are: Poverty & Hunger, Education, Emergency Assistance, and Missional Partnerships.
Local
We firmly believe that missional engagement begins right here at home. We work very hard to encourage longterm relational engagement, rather than flavor of the moment service. Each organization we work with we seek to build lasting partnerships to support the good work they are doing. From local organizations like Surry Medical Ministries, to local schools we recognize that radical change and missional engagement are not one day projects or quick fixes. Therefore rather than re-inventing the wheel we come alongside other service and non-profit organizations to ask how can we help.
National
Whatever we do, at home, we recognize God also calls us to in our region of the world. We are ushers of the Kingdom of God and gifted with the ability to serve around the country. We work alongside a network of churches and national organizations to provide assistance in disaster relief recovery efforts, trips across the southeast for short-term mission trips and engage in holiday travel opportunities to provide additional human capital in the preparation of Thanksgiving and Christmas meal service and assistance in the northeastern United States. We are always looking for ways to expand partnerships!
International
As a CBF congregation we partner alongside several individuals and organizations working around the world to usher in the Kingdom of God. We believe this goes beyond evangelism only but also focuses on wholistic approaches to the personhood of our neighbor all around the world. We work with partners on almost every continent and directly support field personnel in Spain, Japan, and Uganda.
Advocacy
We believe that God has given each person a voice for 2 reasons. To proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven and to speak out against injustice in systems all around us. Whether it is raising our voices for the overlooked and ignored in our own neighborhood, or speaking up for those voices that have been silenced for generations, Advocacy in our belief is an act of worship and fulfillment of our calling.
Assistance
Our food pantry receives non-perishable food items throughout the church year. Hunger is an ever-present reality in our rural community. The food closet is available for those in and outside of the church who live in our immediate parish community. Families needing food should contact the church office at (336) 356-4196 where you will be connected with the Benevolence and Community Crisis Team.
